The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of the Rostec State Corporation) continues to work on the PD-35 technology demonstrator engine. This was announced by Alexander Inozemtsev, General Designer of UEC.
He recalled that in the history of the Russian Federation, there have been no analogues of units with a thrust of 35,000 kgf.
The family of high-thrust engines with a central PD-35 technology demonstrator engine is being created for the first time in the history of our country. Today, its tests continue at the test bench in Perm.
Inozemtsev added that the PD-14 for the MS-21-310 aircraft is currently in the stage of increasing serial production. In addition, the PD-8 under the SJ-100 is undergoing certification tests.
Former Vice President of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of the Rostec State Corporation) Leonid Komm reported that work on the PD-35 had already been curtailed. According to him, PD-26 will be built on the basis of the unit as a cheaper analogue.
Komm clarified that during the work, the designers came to the conclusion that for the production of power plants with a thrust of 35 tons, more money and time are needed, but even 26 tons is enough for the discussed promising aircraft.
Aviation expert Roman Gusarov in an interview with "The First Technical" also explained that the PD-35 in production is more complex than a space rocket, so you should not expect a prototype engine until 2030.
At the same time, the fate of the "younger brother" PD-26 is also still up in the air. Andrey Dutov, General Director of the Zhukovsky National Research Center, stated to "The First Technical" that it will be possible to talk about working on the engine when a major customer of future wide-body aircraft finally formulates the requirements for them. Then it will be possible to discuss the alleged characteristics of the PD-26.
