Import substitution for large-capacity vessels: E70/8RD engine undergoes inspection

The engine is designed for GTA-8R gas turbine power units

The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS, Register) has begun inspecting the lead and first production model of the E70/8RD gas turbine engine developed by the design bureau of PJSC "ODK-Saturn". This was reported in the press service of the institution.

It (the engine) is designed for gas turbine power units (GTA) of marine version GTA-8R with a nominal power of 8 MW, a nominal voltage of 10500 V and a current frequency of 50 Hz.

E70/8RD is designed for autonomous power generation on offshore production platforms and large-capacity vessels. The equipment is suitable for operation in moderate and cold climates. Previously, this niche was occupied by foreign manufacturers.

The engine runs on two types of fuel — gaseous (including associated gas) and liquid (kerosene or diesel fuel). It automatically switches under load from one type of fuel to another.

The approval procedures for a number of materials, blanks and parts for the engine production were successful.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the development of low-speed engines for large-capacity vessels will be established at USC.
