Dozens of Supersonic Passenger Aircraft May Be Built in Russia

The Zhukovsky Research Center recorded interest from airlines in aircraft of this type

Russian air carriers are interested in operating domestic supersonic civil aircraft, and the fleet of such aircraft may number in the dozens. This was reported at the N. E. Zhukovsky National Research Center.

The institute noted that similar trends are observed abroad as well.

According to the results of the studies, we can talk about a fleet of several dozen supersonic civil aircraft for performing commercial flights on domestic airlines, as well as for use in the business and special aviation segments.

The main passenger flow will be formed from passengers flying mainly in business and first class, the institute added.

Andrey Dutov, General Director of the N. E. Zhukovsky National Research Center, told «Первому техническому» that airlines are also considering options with a wide-body aircraft, for which the PD-26 engine will be built. However, there is currently no specific market demand, so pilot work has not yet begun.
