The idea of automating driver's license exams is being discussed in Russia. This is stipulated in a new strategy, approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin, to improve road safety. The strategy is designed until 2030 with a perspective for 2036.
One of the tasks to improve safety is "the development of a system for conducting exams for the right to drive vehicles, including the possibility of introducing automated exams," the document says. Ways to implement this idea have not yet been determined.
Exams are divided into two stages — theoretical and practical. During the practical exam, an inspector is in the car, who evaluates the driver's actions and can take control if necessary.
As for the strategy, it includes eight sections and covers the basic concepts related to road traffic. The document analyzes the current state of safety on the roads, provides statistical data and identifies key problems.
According to the strategy, poor technical condition of the vehicle fleet and roads, insufficient level of culture of road users and outdated safety standards that do not meet modern conditions and technologies lead to a deterioration in road safety.
In addition to automating exams, the strategy proposes updating the vehicle fleet, monitoring the technical condition of vehicles, updating the regulatory framework, improving driver literacy and modernizing road infrastructure.
