Production to resume for 90 billion rubles: Former Volkswagen and General Motors plants to start producing engines, gearboxes and electronics

The former Volkswagen and General Motors plants in the Kaluga region and St. Petersburg will be supported with rubles. It is planned to invest 90 billion in the enterprises.

The plants will produce not only cars, but also electronics, gearboxes and engines. The GM plant will receive 37.1 billion rubles, and about 50.6 billion will be invested in the former VW plant.

Car production at the General Motors site will be налажено in St. Petersburg in early 2026. The total investment over 15 years will be 46.43 billion rubles.

The company has not been operating since 2015 due to the departure of the American auto concern from Russia. In early 2025, the plant was transferred to Art-Finance (now known as AGR Automotive Plant).
