Russian cargo airlines have announced the risk of a complete shutdown within the next three years. The problem lies in the aging fleet of aircraft, the lack of spare parts and simulators, repair queues, and a shortage of pilots and technical personnel. This was reported by Konstantin Yaroshenko, Deputy Head for GR at Sky Gates airline (part of Red Wings).
Currently, 7 airlines from the Rosaviatsiya register have 28 airworthy aircraft. Approximately the same number of aircraft are awaiting repair. Most of the aircraft are of domestic production.
After 2022, the fleet of many air carriers includes outdated Soviet aircraft, and the production of new ones is being postponed. This has led to a proposal to increase the service life of gliders for the Il-76TD from 40 to 45 years.
The cessation of testing of the light transport Il-112V in 2021 and the protracted development of the Il-212 based on it, and the insufficient production rates of heavy transport Il-76MD-90A leave civil cargo carriers no chance to renew their fleet.
There is also an acute shortage of D30 KP-2 engines for the Il-76TD. Therefore, it was also proposed to increase the service life of power plants from 14 to 16 thousand hours. There is also a shortage of simulators for Il-96, TU-204 and Il-76.
Without government support, air carriers will not last longer than five years and will not see the start of deliveries of new domestic equipment.
