The average cost of new and used cars in the Russian car market reached record highs in October. The increase in prices was facilitated by a reduction in discounts, a shortage of certain models, and the expected increase in the recycling fee from December 1.
According to the Autostat agency, the average weighted price of a new passenger car was 3.43 million rubles, which is 2.2% more than in September and 8% higher than in October last year. The indicator became a record for the entire history of the Russian car market.
Alexander Vasiliev, Director of the DRT Automotive Industry Service Group, explains that car sellers began to raise prices in anticipation of an increase in the recycling fee and VAT.
Nikolai Ivanov from Rolf noted that the increase in prices is also associated with the abolition of discount offers and loan subsidy programs. Increased demand has led to a shortage of cars of the Jetour and Geely brands. There is also a shortage of models in parallel imports, such as Mitsubishi and BMW X6.
In October, sales of new passenger cars increased by 35%, reaching 165.7 thousand units, which was the best indicator since November 2024.
From January to October, the average weighted price of new passenger cars increased by 3.5% and amounted to 3.23 million rubles, while used cars fell in price by 0.9% to 1.16 million rubles. According to experts, price growth will continue, although it will not be sharp - within 3-4%. Some models may become cheaper in order to speed up sales and clear warehouses.
