Russia will be forced to conduct nuclear tests if another country does the same. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. He explained the words of Russian leader Vladimir Putin about nuclear tests.
Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is committed to its obligations to ban nuclear tests, and we are not going to do this, but if another country does it, then we will be obliged to do it from the point of view of maintaining parity, namely nuclear parity — this is the most important component for the global security architecture in our time.
According to him, the Russian authorities are trying to understand what the head of the White House Donald Trump meant when he spoke about preparing for nuclear tests, but what Putin meant is perfectly understood in Russia.
The President did not give instructions to begin preparations [for nuclear tests]. First you need to understand whether we need to do this.
Peskov also spoke about the latest Russian weapons — the intercontinental cruise missile of global range with a nuclear power plant "Burevestnik" and the unmanned underwater vehicle "Poseidon" with a nuclear power plant.
These are truly world-class breakthrough technologies that no other country has.
The Kremlin representative stated that judgments that the tests of "Burevestnik" and "Poseidon" were nuclear turned out to be superficial. In his opinion, specialists from the United States could confuse such tests with nuclear ones.
