Russian military personnel have devised a way to utilize Soviet BMP-1s in modern combat conditions. They have dismantled the 73-mm gun turrets to expedite troop deployment, effectively turning them into light APCs.
As light armament, the "Frankenstein" features a PKT machine gun, with a traditional "mangal" made of dense rebar placed above the hull.
Thus, the military, through their own ingenuity, have transformed outdated BMP-1s into simple tracked armored personnel carriers for the front lines.
It is worth noting that the standard armor of the BMP-1, or "kopeyka" as the soldiers themselves call it, can only protect the crew from small arms fire and shrapnel.
The addition of steel sheets and grates turns it into a kind of "hybrid" between an armored personnel carrier and a super-light tank without a load-bearing gun—a cheap and quick solution that has already proven effective.
