Russian engineers are nearing completion of the development of the first domestic 45 kW engine for heavy unmanned aerial vehicles. The Scientific and Production Center "Unmanned Aviation Systems" of the Tomsk Region, together with the KB "Spektr" (Novosibirsk) and NPP "Istok", plays a key role in the project.
According to Andrey Bratenkov, Executive Director of KB "Spektr", the project implements a strategy of technological sovereignty, which provides for the complete localization of power plant production. The new engine will replace foreign counterparts on the "Ilya Muromets" drone, designed for cargo transportation and evacuation of victims.
The creation of the engine, in which SPC UAS TOMSK is actively involved, will be the final stage of localization and will open the era of heavy unmanned aviation in Russia.
"Ilya Muromets" is a universal drone that can bypass electronic warfare (EW) equipment and remain unnoticed. This allows for the rapid delivery of ammunition, medicines, water or food to difficult areas of the front line.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that NPO "Polet" demonstrated net guns for neutralizing drones.
