"Admiralty Shipyards" USC may complete the construction of the patrol icebreaker "Dzerzhinsky" of Project 23550, which is currently being built at the Vyborg Shipyard USC for the Border Service of the FSB of the Russian Federation, according to a source in the shipbuilding industry of St. Petersburg.
Last week, the acting General Director of "Admiralty Shipyards" Andrey Bystrov and the General Director of Vyborg Shipyard Sergey Chernogubovsky discussed the transfer of the construction process. The initiative came from the management of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
The Project 23550 ice-class patrol ship, developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau, is designed to protect Arctic waters, escort and tow detained vessels, accompany supply vessels, and is also capable of engaging sea, coastal, and air targets.
The ship is 114.5 meters long and 19.5 meters wide, and it is capable of breaking through ice up to 1.7 meters thick (Arc7 category). Displacement is about 9,000 tons, the navigation area is unlimited. Economic speed is about 10 knots, full speed is 18 knots, economic cruising range is about 10,000 miles, and endurance is about 70 days.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the lead patrol ship of the ice class of Project 23550 "Ivan Papanin" was presented to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Andrei Belousov.
