The Russian military may have used the 9M729 Novator strategic cruise missile for the first time, Life.ru reported, citing foreign sources.
According to open sources, the missile with a range of up to 2,500 km is designed for integration into the 9K720 Iskander-M operational-tactical missile systems (OTRK).
According to preliminary information, tests of the 9M729 missile started in 2008. It is curious that the name 9M729 was originally given in foreign sources.
The Novator is made according to the usual aerodynamic configuration. In the transport and launch container, the missile's wings fold into the body of the product.
The missile is equipped with a starting two-mode solid-propellant engine, which is separated from the missile after completion of work and gaining the speed required to start the sustainer engine of the product.
Presumably, the 9M729 cruise missile has an inertial control system with Doppler drift angle sensors corrected by data from the GLONASS satellite navigation system. At the final stage of guidance, an active jam-resistant radar homing head is used.
