The management of Yakut Fuel and Energy Company (PJSC YATEC) has decided to suspend the construction of the Yakut LNG plant and focus on providing energy to digital production facilities. This was reported by the YATEC press service.
YATEC remains a mining company, and the key idea of the updated strategy is to use natural gas to create energy-intensive projects, such as data processing centers (DPCs), mining, and cloud computing.
Digital facilities in the region will be built by partner companies. The implementation of a project with a total generation of 200 MW has already begun.
YATEC believes that Yakutia may become the largest site for DPCs in the Far Eastern Federal District in the future.
About the Yakut LNG Plant
The liquefied natural gas plant was planned to be built on the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. The estimated capacity of the enterprise is 17.17 million tons of fuel.
Globaltek was responsible for the implementation of the project. However, in February 2024, the U.S. Treasury Department added it to the sanctions list.
As of March 2025, Yakut LNG was in the pre-project stage.
