Powerful TAD 650 engine for high-speed train passes tests

Mass production of the power plant will be налажен in November 2025

The Chelyabinsk plant "Russian Electric Motors" (REM, part of the Transneft company) has completed testing of an electric motor for a high-speed train that will run on the new Moscow - St. Petersburg highway. This was reported by the company's press service.

The electric motor is specially designed for use on new generation high-speed trains with a design speed of 360 km/h. It has a power of 650 kW. For comparison, the power of one Sapsan traction unit is 510 kW.

Mass production of the TAD 650 engine is scheduled to begin in November 2025.

The high-speed railway will be commissioned in 2028.

Earlier www1.ru reported that a fully Russian TAD650 engine for the HSR train was shown at an exhibition in St. Petersburg.
