A small-scale nuclear power plant is planned to be built in Chukotka by 2030. This was announced by the head of the region, Vladislav Kuznetsov.
The prospects for building a small-scale nuclear power plant in the region based on the domestic "Shelf-M" reactor installation were discussed at a meeting with Alexander Lokshin, First Deputy General Director for the Development of New Nuclear Energy Products at Rosatom State Corporation.
The thermal power of "Shelf-M" is 35 MW, and the electrical power is 10 MW.
The Sovinoye deposit could become the site for construction. The estimated start of the station is 2030.
The station will make it possible to implement industrial projects in remote areas.
