Rosaviatsiya is considering the possibility of retrofitting Superjet passenger aircraft with PD-8 engines instead of the French-Russian SaM146, according to the head of the agency, Dmitry Yadrov.
Every engine, whether Russian, American, or English, has a resource ceiling. After that, the engine needs a major overhaul. It is clear that in the end, we will probably have to remotorize these domestic aircraft with foreign engines by installing PD-8 engines, replacing the control system and nacelle.
According to the head of Rosaviatsiya, the key condition for launching the planned activities is the completion of the certification of the Russian PD-8 engine. He also said that critically important 150-hour tests will start soon, the results of which will determine whether a type certificate will be issued for the PD-8.
The agency emphasized that Superjets are quite modern aircraft with an impressive operational life, capable of being in operation for 20 years or more.
In total, there are currently about 160 Superjet 100 aircraft flying in Russia with foreign components. Serial production of the liners was discontinued in 2022 after the introduction of sanctions.
Earlier www1.ru reported that one of the last six Il-62 aircraft was spotted in North Korea.
