India to Purchase Five New S-400 Triumf Air Defense Systems from Russia

A meeting between representatives of the Republic's Ministry of Defense and the Russian side will take place this week

The Indian government is considering purchasing additional five Russian S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM). A meeting between representatives of both countries to discuss the deal will take place before the end of this week.

India expects that the purchase of SAM systems will protect the country's skies from any attacks along the country's coastline, which stretches over 7,000 km.

According to sources, the intergovernmental agreement may be approved even before the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin in India for the annual Russian-Indian summit in early December.

In 2018, India signed a contract to purchase five divisions of S-400 SAM systems for $5.43 billion. The Prime Minister of the Republic, Narendra Modi, emphasized that in the conflict with Pakistan, the Russian S-400 became a defining force.

The S-400 Triumf air defense system is capable of tracking and engaging up to ten targets simultaneously, including missiles, aircraft, and large drones.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russia is ready to offer deliveries of Su-57 and S-400 air defense systems abroad.
