The Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation, part of the Ak Bars holding, is being considered as a potential contractor for the construction of at least one icebreaker of project 23620 for Rosmorport. The shipyard has experience in building ships of various classes, including Arctic ones, which makes it an attractive candidate for construction. This was reported by sources familiar with the negotiations.
A source said that the Butoma Shipbuilding Plant, which is part of Ak Bars, could take over the production of the icebreaker. However, this will require significant financial investments due to the need to rework the project for the use of Russian equipment.
Icebreakers of project 23620 should become the first Russian ships with a power plant operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Technical characteristics of the vessel of project 23620:
- The vessel is designed for year-round operation in the Baltic, White and Barents Seas, and in the summer-autumn period — in the Arctic Ocean.
- Icebreaker length — 95.6 m, width — 22.5 m, draft — 8 m.
- Speed — at least 16 knots.
