The National Space Center (NKC) opened in Moscow on September 13 on the territory of the State Space Research and Production Center (GKNPTs) named after Khrunichev. The ceremony was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the inspection of the center, Putin visited an exhibition of spacecraft. The tour was conducted by Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Bakanov. The head of state inspected models of the Lunokhod-2 self-propelled laboratory, the Venera-7 automatic interplanetary station, and the descent vehicle of the Soyuz-MS-25 spacecraft.
Then, a communication session was held in the NKC with Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov, Alexei Zubritsky, Oleg Platonov, who are on a mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also took part in the event. According to him, work on this site will continue with the opening of the NKC.
This is the beginning of the reorganization of this entire depressed industrial zone, which is largely not in demand.
1.5 million square meters of a modern innovative industrial park will be built on this territory. There will be technology parks, educational centers, and a college for training specialists in the space industry. In addition, 22 Moscow organizations of the rocket and space industry will move to the NKC.
