The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec) will make a final decision on the serial production of A-50 airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft after the completion of the current work. This was announced by General Designer Sergei Korotkov.
According to him, the corporation has concluded contracts that it is still working on. However, A-50 aircraft are indeed needed, including for obtaining information about their operation.
But this work has not been completed, and these systems do not yet have a final conclusion. Once we receive it, a decision will be made on scalable and serial production.
In February 2024, the head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, stated that the state corporation intends to restore the previous production of A-50 aircraft, as they are in demand for export and are necessary for the Armed Forces.
The A-50U aircraft is designed to detect air, large ground, and sea targets, transmit information about them to command posts, and guide fighters and front-line aircraft.
