Знаковый день для транспорта: первый в России беспилотный трамвай запустили в Москве

The fully autonomous "Lion Cub-Moscow" tram operates on route No. 10 in the northwest of the capital

Moscow has launched Russia's first fully autonomous tram, the "Lion Cub-Moscow" model. It operates on route No. 10 "Shchukinskaya Metro Station – Kulakova Street" in the northwest of the city.

The innovative tram independently makes stops, opens and closes doors, obeys traffic lights and schedules, and safely crosses intersections, yielding to pedestrians and other vehicles.

The tram has been tested since May 2024 over a distance of more than 8,000 km, and has never violated traffic rules.

A tram management employee is present in the cabin for visual monitoring and resolution of organizational issues, but should not interfere with the vehicle's operation.

The software for autonomous operation was developed by employees of the Moscow Metro, and the technology is wholly owned by the Moscow government.

We are launching the first self-driving tram in Russia, already at the third level. That is, a tram that will run without a driver
Sergey Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow

It is planned to launch three more self-driving trams by the end of the year, 15 by 2026, and two-thirds of the capital's tram fleet by 2030. In addition, tests of the first self-driving metro train will begin in the coming years.
