The Ministry of Defense of Belarus has denied information circulating online about alleged plans to use nuclear weapons in the upcoming CSTO exercises. The military will only plan the use of nuclear weapons during the exercises, but there will be no actual use, said the Minister of Defense of the Republic, Pavel Muraveiko.
He recalled that nuclear weapons, both tactical and strategic, pose a threat to the entire world.
As part of the exercises, the planning of the use of all types of weapons is envisaged. And the use - well, sorry, you can't use something that, shall we say, poses a threat to the whole world, to universal security. And how to plan it - we will learn.
The exercises will take place from September 12 to 16 in Belarus. Military contingents from Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan have already arrived in the country.
Muraveiko clarified that the exercises were moved away from the southern and western borders of the republic so that it would not be "accused of various kinds of insinuations and possible provocations." Therefore, the maneuvers will take place at training grounds in eastern Belarus.
