The first MoAZ-4076 load-haul-dump machine (LHD), developed by the BELAZ holding for Nornickel's underground mines, has started operating at the Angidrit mine of the Kayerkansky mine in Norilsk.
The machine, with a payload capacity of 17.2 tons, was created by order of Nornickel over more than a year. Its design is adapted to operate in the challenging conditions of inclined workings in Norilsk mines. The LHD has a power of 470 horsepower and a weight of 55 tons.
The new equipment is equipped with safety systems that meet international ROPS and FOPS standards, as well as blind spot monitoring and a mining brake. It is expected that the machine will perform the amount of work that previously required three shifts, completing up to 140 work cycles per shift.
Key components of the LHD, including axles and transmissions, are manufactured by the Belarusian enterprise, and the engines are of Russian production. The equipment will be operated by top-tier machinists who have received instruction from BELAZ specialists.
Our Belarusian colleagues independently manufacture key components: axles, transmissions. The engines are of Russian production. This is not just a joint assembly. This is truly an import-independent machine, created on the principles of technological sovereignty. We expect a lifespan comparable to the best imported models, but we understand that pilot operation may require refinements. This is part of the process. The main thing is that we have started moving forward.
The delivery was made possible thanks to an agreement on expanding cooperation between Nornickel and BELAZ, signed in January 2025. Previously, the partnership mainly concerned the supply of mining equipment for open-pit operations.
