The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec) is working on a shortened version of the MC-21. The preliminary technical design will be ready by the end of 2025, said Sergey Chemezov, head of the Rostec state corporation.
According to him, after that, the decision rests with the state, as it is necessary to resolve the issue of financing.
Then the development of working design documentation will begin. Continuity with the current version of the MC-21-310 will be maintained, so it should be faster - we will not have to create an aircraft from "scratch".
Chemezov added that the "short" version of the MC-21 will differ in a shorter fuselage. The number of seats will also decrease - from 175 in the MC-21-310 to approximately 153.
The figure is approximate, as the final appearance has not yet been determined. Shortened MC-21s will be in demand among airlines.
Carriers will have a choice between long and short versions. Both options will complement each other depending on the tasks of the carriers and the economics of specific routes, the head of the state corporation concluded.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the fully Russian MC-21-310 has flown only 70 hours - certification is progressing in small steps.
