Regional aviation in Russia is in a difficult state, and there will be fewer and fewer flights. This was stated by former expert of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Pavel Gerasimov.
According to him, the main fleet of aircraft for regional and local transportation consists of An-24, An-2 — also known as "Kukuruznik" — and some Il models. Gerasimov believes that the development of new "Baikal" and "Ladoga" aircraft is unable to change the deplorable situation due to economic inexpediency.
No one wants to invest in new infrastructure, so there will be fewer and fewer flights. As a result, we will return to the early 90s, when regional aviation practically ceased to exist.
Gerasimov concluded that the only thing to count on is the preservation of the Soviet aircraft fleet and those aircraft that were acquired before 2022.
