Russian Railways (RZD) is considering the possibility of rerouting "Sapsan" trains to new routes after the launch of the high-speed railway (HSR) between Moscow and St. Petersburg. This was announced by the Deputy General Director of RZD, Ivan Kolesnikov.
Currently, we are considering several route options: Moscow – Minsk, Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow – Voronezh. This rolling stock will not be left without work.
HSR is a specialized electrified double-track railway line designed for the operation of trains with speeds from 200 to 400 kilometers per hour. Currently, there are no such roads in Russia. The pilot project will be the first HSR-1 line between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The construction of the main section of the highway is scheduled to begin in mid-2025, and the full completion of the project is expected in 2028.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that RZD will launch additional freight trains thanks to the HSR.
