The main difference between the Russian Kh-101 cruise missile for Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers and the American Tomahawk is the ability to carry a nuclear warhead. This was stated by a military expert, historian of air defense (AD) troops Yuri Knutov.
According to him, the Kh-101 is, to some extent, an analogue of the Tomahawk. Russia also launches ammunition from strategic aviation aircraft - Tu-160 and Tu-95MS.
The only difference from the American missile is that they can be used with both nuclear and conventional warheads.
In non-nuclear equipment, the Kh-101 carries a 400-kg high-explosive warhead. In thermonuclear equipment, the power of the projectile is regulated.
Work on the creation of the Kh-101 missile began during the USSR. In 2012, the Kh-101 (in nuclear equipment - referred to as Kh-102) was adopted by the Russian army. Distinctive features of the missile are the presence of a jamming system and reduced radar signature.
Preliminary characteristics of the Kh-101:
- Length - 7.45 m
- Starting weight - up to 2400 kg
- Accuracy (circular probable deviation) - up to 20 m
Earlier www1.ru reported that the flagship of the Navy, the cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov", may be scrapped.
