Footage of tests of the "closed cockpit" for supersonic aircraft of the future has appeared

The Yak-40 aircraft-based laboratory was used as a flight demonstrator

The Siberian Research Institute of Aviation named after S. A. Chaplygin (SibNIA) has tested the "closed cockpit" technology for a future supersonic airliner that will not have traditional glazing. The footage has appeared online.

As a flight demonstrator, the testers used a laboratory based on the Yak-40 aircraft, which was controlled by pilots using an external vision system.

The system was built on the basis of seven video cameras, two of which operate in the infrared range, and five more in the visible range.

The cameras provided a complete overview of the environment, forming video streams that were analyzed by the onboard intelligent system, while the pilots received a picture for control on the monitors.
