Rosatom Composite Technologies has launched the first serial production of thermoplastic composites in Russia. The new enterprise, launched in Moscow, is the only facility in the country capable of producing high-tech materials previously only available abroad.
The production capacity will allow the production of innovative materials that open up new opportunities for the aviation, space and oil and gas industries, as well as accelerate the introduction of additive technologies in industry. The production is designed to produce 11 thousand consolidated plates for thermoforming, 50 tons of unidirectional non-crimp prepregs and towpregs for automatic laying and 9 tons of continuous carbon fiber filaments for 3D printing per year.
The global market for thermoplastic composites is developing rapidly, and now Russia is among the technological leaders in this area. We managed not only to develop materials comparable in quality to the products of global brands, but also to create a unique production facility that has no analogues in the country yet
Thermoplastics are new materials for the Russian composites market, characterized by high impact strength, crack and wear resistance, durability and resistance to aggressive chemical influences.
Thermoplastic composite materials are used in aviation, space technology, oil and gas and automotive industries, as well as in the sports industry.
Thermoplastic unidirectional prepregs are a composite of unidirectional fibers impregnated with a thermoplastic polymer.
Towpregs are prepregs prepared for robotic laying. Often impregnated with a thermoplastic binder.
