A new Chinese tank, being developed for the export market, may become an alternative to the Russian T-90M — the export designation T-90MS. The features of the vehicle were revealed by Defence Blog.
A tank on the chassis of the Soviet T-72 was previously spotted in China. The main difference is a new turret with a remotely controlled combat module and FY-2 dynamic protection, which can be armed with a machine gun. The vehicle also received a thermal imager for the commander.
Journalists suggested that the modernization was developed for customers from Asia and Africa who are looking for relatively inexpensive and modern armored vehicles.
This is a budget alternative to the Russian T-90M, designed for countries with limited defense spending. China is targeting markets where Moscow has long had influence.
