Tu-160 strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) were spotted at the Yelizovo airfield in Kamchatka. This was reported by the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST).
The Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, citing commercial satellite imagery, stated that all operational Tu-160 bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces were redeployed to the most remote airfields in the Far East — seven to Yelizovo in Kamchatka and three to the Anadyr airfield.
In the European part, there is only one (apparently non-flying) aircraft at the Engels-2 airfield, which was previously the main base for the Tu-160, and two Tu-160 aircraft used as experimental aircraft in Zhukovsky (apparently only one is flying).
The Tu-160 was developed as a response to the appearance of the American supersonic strategic Rockwell B-1 Lancer, but the domestic bomber surpassed it in firepower, size, and speed.
The Tu-160's arsenal includes Kh-55, Kh-101, Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" cruise missiles, and guided munitions of the KAB-1500 type.
