Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket successfully launched the Progress MS-31 space truck into orbit

The ship will deliver important equipment for experiments, cargo for the crew, as well as fuel and nitrogen for the station

Today at 22:32, the Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the Progress MS-31 cargo transport ship, heading to the International Space Station (ISS), was successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The launch proceeded as normal: the 525th second of the flight marked the successful separation of the Progress MS-31 cargo ship from the carrier rocket and its insertion into the ISS orbit.

Progress MS-31 will deliver about 2625 kilograms of various cargoes to the station, necessary to support the crew's life support and the operation of the station, including:

  • 950 kg of fuel for the ISS.
  • 50 kg of nitrogen to replenish the station's atmosphere.
  • 420 kg of drinking water.
  • 1205 kg of dry cargo for the crew and station systems *.

* As well as equipment for the "Virtual", "Biodegradation", "Fullerene", "Impulse", "Mirage" experiments.

Flight and docking scheme:

Progress MS-31 will fly to the ISS in 50 hours according to the standard two-day scheme, it is planned to make 34 orbits around the Earth. Automatic docking with the Poisk module of the Russian segment of the station is scheduled for July 6 at 00:27 Moscow time. The process will be monitored by specialists from the MCC and cosmonauts on board the ISS.

Mission Significance:

This launch is another stage in the regular supply of the International Space Station. Progress MS series trucks are the circulatory system of the station, ensuring a continuous human presence in orbit. The duration of the ship's flight at the station will be 167 days.
