Fraudsters impersonate employees of "Vodokanal" and deceive Russians. This was warned by the Department for the Organization of Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Fraudsters call citizens on behalf of "Vodokanal" and use a simple but effective psychological trick. From the very first minute of the conversation, they create a complete illusion of legitimate "working" contact for the victim. The entire dialogue revolves around the allegedly necessary visit of a specialist to the house - to check water meters or for urgent work.

During the call, the person thinks that he is participating in the usual coordination procedure. He discusses a convenient time and clarifies the details of the visit, sometimes even prepares documents. No suspicions arise, because the attackers do not demand money, do not ask for personal data and do not put pressure on the victim. But after agreeing on all the details of the visit, when the person is already ready to meet with a specialist, the fraudster says that he has registered an application in the system and urgently needs a code from the SMS that came to the victim's phone.

The UBK emphasized that the real "Vodokanal" never requests codes by phone. Specialists come only by application, and they are all required to present identification.

Earlier, fraudsters came up with a new scheme of deception with a "unified aggregator of public services". Criminals call Russians, posing as technical specialists of a new information service. They say that the service helps to easily switch between different government departments, simplifying the receipt of services. But in fact, such a service does not exist.
