Ростех отказал тяжелым БМП в праве на жизнь: массовым решением не станут

High cost, complexity of production and maintenance make such equipment resource-intensive

Despite the high level of protection, heavy infantry fighting vehicles will not be able to become the basis of the armored vehicle fleet of the armed forces. This was announced by the industrial director of the Rostec State Corporation cluster, Bekhan Ozdoev.

According to him, in order for a vehicle to really withstand multiple hits from ATGMs and FPV drones with cumulative warheads, its weight should reach about 60 tons — more than a tank.

Such equipment will require a reinforced chassis, a powerful engine, a complex transmission, and still will not provide a full guarantee of the survival of the crew and landing party in a modern conflict.

Ozdoev recalled that in the late Soviet period, the concept of creating heavy IFVs and APCs comparable in protection to tanks was considered. These ideas are being implemented today. However, such machines will not become widespread.

The troops need mass and affordable transport, and heavy armored vehicles should be used as a specialized type. High cost, complexity of production and maintenance make such equipment resource-intensive and limit its use.
