The first Russian electric car "Atom" will take part in an expedition to the North Pole on board the nuclear icebreaker "50 Years of Victory". This will be a global precedent — previously, no electric car had been tested in Arctic conditions. The pre-production prototype has already been sent to Murmansk, and the ship is scheduled to depart in the coming days.
During the voyage, the electric car will go out onto the Arctic ice to demonstrate the readiness of Russian technologies to work in extreme climates. This experiment should confirm that electric cars are no longer limited to urban conditions and can function effectively in any region.
The project is being implemented by "Atomflot", the company "Kama" — the developer of "Atom", and TVEL — a structure of "Rosatom", responsible for the business direction of electric mobility. TVEL supplies batteries and engines for the model. The start of mass production is scheduled for 2025 — the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry.
