The Irkutsk Aviation Plant will be able to produce about 12-15 MC-21 aircraft annually; it is impossible to organize mass production of the liner at the initial stage. This opinion was shared by Major General, Honored Military Pilot of the Russian Federation Vladimir Popov.
He recalled that certification tests are not yet completed, many systems and parts of the MC-21 are being created virtually from scratch, so forecasts should be treated with caution.
I'm not exaggerating, no, this is a fact, just real work. We had to create composites for the wing on our own technological base, all systems and components, and today we are lagging behind with mass production.
Popov emphasized that the Irkutsk Aviation Plant has already worked out production capacity. Now they are designed to produce at least two to three aircraft per month.
But keep in mind that it is impossible to organize such mass production at the initial stage. You need to understand that at the first stage, the plant will be able to make one aircraft in a month and a half to two months. We still need to conduct tests, prepare the aircraft, and then hand it over to the airline. If we make 12–15 aircraft in the first year, that will be good.
According to his estimates, it will take at least two years to reach the capacity required to close Aeroflot's plans.
This time will be spent on "assembly workers getting their hands on." The assembly speed will depend on the development of the principles of mechanical actions.
