Russian company Metiz, a resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Center, presented the improved "Max Bionics" bionic hand prostheses at the Startup Village 2025 technology conference. These devices stand out with the ability to individually customize gestures via Bluetooth using any mobile device. Each finger of the prosthesis is equipped with a separate motor, ensuring high precision of movements. Control is carried out via a touch screen, and regular firmware updates allow users to receive new functions without replacing the device.
According to Alexey, a representative of the company, the prostheses have already undergone four major upgrades in the last two years.
I have been wearing such a hand for two years — this is already the fourth major upgrade that we have.
The uniqueness of the hands lies in their local production: about 90% of the components are manufactured in Russia. This significantly reduces repair time — in case of a breakdown, the prosthesis can be restored in a week, unlike foreign counterparts, where waiting for spare parts can take months.
Special attention is paid to durability. If earlier the fingers of the prostheses were plastic and often broke, now they are made of metal, which significantly increased reliability.
For the last year, they have been making metal fingers — since then, they have not broken once.
In Russia, such devices can be provided free of charge through state support programs for people with disabilities. After passing a medical commission, users receive prostheses.
Russia is one of the few countries that provides people with disabilities, specifically with movement limitations, with prostheses free of charge.
In comparison with other Russian developments, for example, prostheses from the company "Motorica", "Max Bionics" wins due to the flexibility of programming gestures and high localization of production. Metiz prostheses are exported to 47 countries, including Europe. The company produces not only hands, but also knee modules, carbon fiber feet, and adapters.
