Russia plans to launch new autonomous vessels, similar to the ferries already operating between Ust-Luga and Baltiysk. This was announced by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
On September 1, 2024, amendments to the Merchant Shipping Code and the Inland Water Transport Code, concerning autonomous navigation, came into force in Russia. These amendments regulate the operation of autonomous vessels, the procedure for their management, the status of the external crew, and the regulation of legal relations in the process of their navigation.
Currently, Russia operates two ferries with autonomous navigation systems - "Marshal Rokossovsky" and "General Chernyakhovsky". These ferries were the first in the country to receive certificates of marine autonomous and remotely controlled surface vessels (MANS).
The introduction of autonomous navigation technologies will lead to increased safety of navigation.
Earlierwww1.ru reported that a new generation river ferry project wasdeveloped at OSC Vympel.
