The Kalashnikov Group (part of Rostec) presented the new AK-12 shortened (AK-12K) and AK-12 small-sized (AK-12SK) assault rifles to journalists for the first time. The presentation took place in the Patriot Central Military-Patriotic Park of Culture and Recreation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Alan Lushnikov, CEO of Kalashnikov Group, emphasized that combat experience revealed the demand for shortened versions of automatic weapons, which are best suited for use in dense urban environments.
The latest 5.45-mm AK-12K and AK-12SK assault rifles are designed for the 5.45x39 mm cartridge and are intended to destroy enemy personnel. The weapons have improved technical, operational, and ergonomic characteristics that meet the requirements of modern combat.
In particular, 5.45-mm cartridges with ordinary 7N6 bullets, 5.45-mm cartridges with 7N10 high-penetration bullets, as well as 5.45-mm cartridges with 7T3 and 7T3M tracer bullets are used when firing from them. The capacity of AK-12K and AK-12SK magazines is 30 rounds.

- Weight without magazine, sling and accessories - no more than 3.4 kg
- The length of the machine gun without a silencer is no more than 810 mm in the combat position, 570 mm in the stowed position
