Footage has emerged online showing a Russian diesel-electric submarine "Krasnodar" of Project 636.3, code name "Varshavyanka," of the Black Sea Fleet being escorted in the English Channel between France and Great Britain.
The photographs show that the submarine is moving in a surfaced position in accordance with international rules. A British warship is following at a distance.
The Russian Navy issued a denial that the submarine was allegedly "intercepted" by British Navy forces. The Navy emphasized that domestic submarines are performing combat training tasks in the world's oceans, and "it is impossible to intercept them."
The Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarine is designed to destroy enemy submarines, surface ships and vessels, to conduct surveillance, patrol, protect communications in the near sea zone, and for reconnaissance.
The submarines have a length of 74 m, a maximum displacement of more than 3.9 thousand tons. The strong hull provides the submarine with a working depth of 240 m and a maximum depth of 300 m, a range of up to 7.5 thousand miles. The main armament of the submarines is the "Caliber-PL" missile system.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Pantsir-S1 air defense missile system received a new radar for missile guidance and target tracking.
