The universal nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 "Yakutia" has completed the voyage that began on April 9 from St. Petersburg, to its home port of Murmansk, covering more than 2,400 nautical miles.

The vessel was built at the Baltic Shipyard by order of FSUE "Atomflot". The construction of the nuclear-powered ship began in May 2020, and the launch took place in November 2022. During 2024, mooring trials were carried out on the ship, a physical start-up of the nuclear power plant was carried out, and factory sea trials were completed.

Currently, the Baltic Shipyard continues the construction of two new icebreakers in the series — "Chukotka" and "Leningrad". In addition, the shipyard is working on the multifunctional nuclear technology service vessel "Vladimir Vorobyov". The company plans to lay down the seventh universal nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 "Stalingrad", the ceremony of which is scheduled for November 19, 2025.

Icebreakers of Project 22220 are the most powerful in the world, their power plant develops a capacity of 60 megawatts. The vessels are designed for year-round navigation in the Arctic, starting from the mouth of the Yenisei and the Ob Bay, as well as for towing ships and other floating structures both in ice and in open water.
