Baiterek is a joint project between Russia and Kazakhstan that started back in 2004. It involves the creation of a new space rocket complex on the territory of the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The first flight tests were supposed to take place at this site back in 2022, but the dates have been pushed back year after year. But already in December 2025, the Soyuz-5 carrier rocket will be launched.

We are looking forward to the start at the Baiterek complex. As part of the project, the launch of the first Soyuz-5 test carrier is scheduled for December. We hope that our deadlines will be met and we will implement this important project in a timely manner.
Murat Nurtleu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan

It is expected that after conducting test launches in 2025, full-scale use of the Baiterek complex at the Baikonur Cosmodrome will begin in 2028.
