Law enforcement agencies face a shortage of equipment for hacking smartphones

Law enforcement agencies are looking for alternatives to foreign software after foreign manufacturers left the Russian market

Law enforcement agencies in Russia are facing a serious shortage of equipment for hacking smartphones, which negatively affects the quality and speed of investigations. Sources told reporters about this.

According to them, the problem worsened after the introduction of sanctions and the departure of foreign companies in 2022, including Cellebrite and MSAB. Foreign software from these companies allowed data to be extracted from mobile devices, which was actively used by security forces, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB.

According to experts, at present there are only a few domestic developers left in Russia, such as "MKO-Systems" and Elcomsoft, which allow data to be extracted from smartphones, but their solutions do not always meet modern requirements and the functionality of foreign analogues.

Difficulties also arise due to the constant increase in the level of smartphone protection. Manufacturers strive to minimize vulnerabilities, which makes hacking more laborious and requires significant investments in the development of new tools. There are no complete complexes on the market adapted to the specific tasks of forensic scientists.

Experts emphasize that without state support and cooperation with scientific institutions, the situation may worsen. As a result, delays in investigations and an increase in the number of unsolved cases become a real threat to the rule of law.
