Alexey Rakhimbaev, the developer of the MC-21 aircraft and chief designer of the Yakovlev Design Bureau, has passed away. According to the Telegram channel Shot, the 72-year-old designer's heart stopped during knee surgery.
According to the source, Rakhimbaev was taken to one of Moscow's hospitals the day before for urgent surgery due to problems with his knee joint. A few minutes after the start of the surgery, the designer's heart failed, and he died on the operating table.
Alexey Rakhimbaev worked at the A.S. Yakovlev Design Bureau since 1974, and since 1991 he was the chief designer. Simultaneously, in 1997-2019, he was the general director of ZAO "Yak-engineering". He supervised the work on Yak-40, Yak-42, and also developed passenger equipment and the interior of the MC-21 aircraft.
