Shot: Alexey Rakhimbaev's heart stopped during knee surgery

Alexey Rakhimbaev, the developer of the MC-21 aircraft and chief designer of the Yakovlev Design Bureau, has passed away. According to the Telegram channel Shot, the 72-year-old designer's heart stopped during knee surgery.

According to the source, Rakhimbaev was taken to one of Moscow's hospitals the day before for urgent surgery due to problems with his knee joint. A few minutes after the start of the surgical intervention, the designer's heart failed, and he died on the operating table.

Alexey Rakhimbaev worked at the A.S. Yakovlev Design Bureau since 1974, and since 1991 he was the chief designer. Simultaneously, from 1997–2019, he was the general director of ZAO "Yak-Engineering". He supervised the work on Yak-40, Yak-42, and also developed passenger equipment and the interior of the MC-21 aircraft.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the certification of the Il-114 turboprop aircraft is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.
