Another tanker: a vessel loaded with 130,000 tons of fuel oil damaged in the Leningrad region

The accident on the tanker occurred during engine start-up

The tanker Koala, carrying 130,000 tons of fuel oil, began to sink in the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region). The incident occurred on February 9 during engine start-up.

According to the governor of the region, Alexander Drozdenko, the cause of the incident was man-made damage to the engine room. There is no threat of oil spills.

All 24 crew members (including four Russians) were evacuated, no one was injured.

According to Telegram channels, emergency services received information about three explosions in the engine room. This information has not been officially confirmed.

The tanker Koala sails under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. It was at the third pier at the time of the incident. Specialists are conducting a survey of the vessel to find out the exact causes of the accident.
