Lada Vesta vs. Aura Comparison: How ABS and ESC Affect Handling in Winter Conditions

Itelma demonstrated how active safety systems help Lada cars cope with snow and ice

The Itelma research and production enterprise demonstrated how Lada Vesta and Aura behave in difficult winter conditions with and without the active safety systems ABS and ESC. The braking results were demonstrated on various surfaces, such as packed snow, ice, and a "checkerboard" pattern simulating spring roads.

In conditions of limited traction, the Lada Vesta with ABS confidently maintained its trajectory, while cars without anti-lock braking system and electronic stability control ESC lose control and go into a skid. The capabilities of cars with ESC in maneuvers such as the "moose test" and slalom were also shown.

The tests also showed that the traction control system TCS significantly facilitates control on slippery surfaces, allowing cars to easily climb icy slopes with a 15% gradient.

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) on Lada cars are produced by Itelma. The import substitution of ESC took two years.
