The fifth-generation Su-57 fighter will serve the Russian military for at least 50 years. This opinion was expressed by Major General (Retired), Honored Military Pilot of Russia, Vladimir Popov.
According to him, the Su-57 is not just an aircraft, but an entire platform: both a strike and reconnaissance complex, and a long-range and close-range fighter.
The technological groundwork will be enough for at least 50 years of service. This is a 21st-century fighter platform. And only then, in 50 years, the process of decommissioning the Su-57 will likely begin.
Popov noted that the Su-57 could become the leading aircraft that will coordinate the work of a group of drones. The former military official suggested that significant changes will continue to be made to the fighter's design throughout its service life.
The prototype of the Su-57 aircraft made its first flight in 2010. The Russian army received the first production model in 2020.
Military Watch Magazine noted that the Su-57 surpasses all other fifth-generation combat aircraft in "combat-proven" terms. Western journalists emphasized that the fighter successfully resists aerial targets, suppresses air defense systems, and delivers high-precision strikes in conditions of strong opposition.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that MiG-29KUB carrier-based fighters flew in the Arctic.
