Russia's largest морской угольный терминал Восточный порт turned out to be out of work after modernization. Investors in the лице АО «Восточный порт», who invested more than $800 million in the facility, are asking President Владимир Путин for help in the current situation. This was reported by РБК, citing an appeal to the head of state from the managing director of АО «Восточный порт» Вадим Байбак, with which the editors got acquainted.
The морской угольный терминал in the eastern part of Находка Приморского края has three phases, the last of which was built by АО «Восточный порт» without government assistance, and commissioned in 2019. This is the largest facility of its kind in Russia, with a capacity of 55 million tons. But it turned out that there is no work for Восточный: the expected transshipment at the end of 2024 is only 25 million tons, which is even less than the угольный терминал пропускал through itself before modernization.
The largest high-tech specialized угольный терминал with new deep-water berths and high speed of вагонов обработки works at no more than 50% of its capacity. And, as noted in the appeal, "in fact, investments in modernization and increased transshipment capacity, implemented in accordance with the approved state strategies for the development of the угольной промышленности and железнодорожного транспорта, turned out to be unclaimed".
In 2025, the investor expects a further decrease in traffic to the terminal. This means that the company's economic indicators will decline, and there will be difficulties with the payment of налоговых отчислений. Social projects are also under threat: this is, in particular, a residential quarter worth 10 billion rubles in the village of Врангель, which was supposed to completely update the housing stock of the village. Also, «Восточный порт» financed the construction of the ледовой арены «Восточный» for 1 billion rubles.
To prevent this from happening, the port management asked President Владимир Путин to ensure that the terminal is loaded with углём in 2025 at a level of at least 35 million tons. This is almost 40% more than in 2024. According to РБК, Путин расписал a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Александр Новак with the note "Report".
