Modernization is complete, but no work: Russia's largest морской угольный терминал Восточный порт is in demand

Social projects and tax deductions are under threat, investors have already appealed to President Владимир Путин

Russia's largest морской угольный терминал Восточный порт turned out to be out of work after modernization. Investors in the лице АО «Восточный порт», who invested more than $800 million in the facility, are asking President Владимир Путин for assistance in the current situation. This was reported by РБК, citing an appeal to the head of state from the managing director of АО «Восточный порт» Вадим Байбак, with which the editors became acquainted.

The морской угольный терминал in the eastern part of Находка Приморского края has three phases, the last of which was built by АО «Восточный порт» without government assistance, and commissioned in 2019. This is the largest such facility in Russia, with a capacity of 55 million tons. But it turned out that there is no work for Восточный: the expected transshipment for 2024 is only 25 million tons, which is even less than the угольный терминал пропускал through itself before modernization.

The largest high-tech specialized угольный терминал with new deep-water berths and high speed of обработки обработки вагонов operates at no more than 50% of its capacity. And, as noted in the обращении, "фактически вложения в модернизацию и увеличение мощности по перевалке, реализованные в соответствии с утверждёнными государственными стратегиями по развитию угольной промышленности и железнодорожного транспорта, оказались невостребованными".

In 2025, the investor expects a further decrease in traffic to the terminal. This means that the company's economic indicators will decline, and there will be difficulties with the payment of tax deductions. Social projects are also under threat: this includes, in particular, a residential quarter for 10 billion rubles in the village of Врангель, which was supposed to completely update the housing stock of the village. «Восточный порт» also financed the construction of the ледовая арена «Восточный» for 1 billion rubles.

To prevent this from happening, the port management asked President Владимир Путин to ensure that the terminal is loaded with coal in 2025 at a level of at least 35 million tons. This is almost 40% more than in 2024. According to РБК, Путин расписал письмо to Deputy Prime Minister Александр Новак with the note "Доложите".
