In October, the market for new passenger cars showed growth that exceeded the expectations of many market participants. This became a new record for the last 3.5 years - 171,180 cars were sold.
Autostat reported that in Russia last month, sales of new passenger cars increased by 13.5% compared to the previous month and amounted to 171.18 thousand units. This is the best result in the last 3.5 years, but it fell short of the record in April 2021, when 171.5 thousand passenger cars were sold.
Compared to October 2023, sales increased by 52.4%. Over the ten months of this year, the market volume increased by 59.8% and amounted to 1.33 million units.
The demand for cars increased due to the desire of Russians to buy cars imported before the increase in the recycling fee rate from October 1. In the first week of the month, almost 50 thousand new cars were sold. However, according to dealers, this surge of interest will not be long. They are already noting a decrease in the number of buyers in car dealerships.
Now in Russia, foreign cars imported before the increase in the recycling fee are running out. As a result, some popular models have become noticeably more expensive: Toyota RAV4 can be purchased for 5 million rubles, Kia Sportage for 4.5 million, and a BMW X5 with a 3.0d engine will cost approximately 17 million rubles.
At the same time, the average cost of used cars decreased in October by 5.7%.
