В Саратове создали уникальный сенсор для обнаружения инертных газов

The device has no analogues in the world

At the Saratov State University named after N.G. Chernyshevsky (SSU), elements of multisensor chips for gas sensors designed to detect inert gases in small concentrations have been created. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

The device has no analogues in the world. Scientists have managed to prove the possibility of detecting inert gases, despite the difficulties in their identification.

The essence of the disclosed mechanism for detecting positive ions of helium, neon, and argon is that an ion, approaching the surface of tin oxide, takes one missing electron. In doing so, it knocks out one surface oxygen atom, thereby changing the electrical resistance of the film. This change is the chemiresistive response, the magnitude of which determines the fact of contact between the film surface and inert gases and the type of inert gas.

The new sensor detects inert gases in a wide temperature range — up to 400 °C. The developers plan to use the invention to detect leaks.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that in Novosibirsk developed building materials with a low carbon footprint.
